- What's so different about a website for writers and authors? Isn't it just the same as any other website?
- I've been married to a writer and author for many years. In the years since developing her first web site in 1997 we've learned what works to create a great web presence for writers and authors.
- How long will it take to design the website?
- From three weeks to three months depending on the complexity of the site. A simple site with a biography, clips, contact page and media pages would fall in the shorter end of the range.
- Will I be able to add new content (like more clips) or change things (like update my bio) when it becomes necessary?
- Yes, your web site can be set up to allow you to update and add content. If tinkering around under the hood is something you don't want to do, I can usually update or add pages within 48 hours.
- I have no idea what needs to be included on my website. Will you provide the content?
- No, I don't provide the actual content. The beginning of the design process is a discussion to determine what content is needed on your web site to meet your goals. Next the organization of the web site is considered, and finally I provide an outline of the necessary content with word counts. In some cases examples are included.
- Can I have a photo gallery?
- Yes, your web site can have a gallery ranging from a simple page of photos to a multi-album gallery.
- I'd like to sell my books on my website. Can you include a way for me to do this?
- Yes, a shopping cart can be included on your web site.
- How much will this cost? And what does this fee include?
- Pricing begins at $700. This includes design, graphics, coding and setup of the site. It does not include hosting or domain name registration. Most web sites can operate on hosting plans that cost less than $100 per year. Domain name registration will cost about $15 per year.
- Do I need to find a host for my website?
- No, I've already done the legwork for you. I have reliable, cost friendly hosts that I use. And no, I can't set your site up on a free or $1.99 per month host.
- Do I need to find a domain for my website? How do I do this?
- Yes, you should have a domain name. You can go to one of the many domain name registration companies (such as godaddy.com or networksolutions.com/whois/) and search to see what names are available. Take your time searching for an available name – you'll have to live with it forever. You should try your own name or the title of your book. Once you have selected a name I can help you get the registration done in a way that will work best with your web site.
